Sorry TomDaya fans—it looks like your favorites probably aren’t busy yet.
If you’ve been online this week, you’ve probably heard “reports” of Tom Holland and Zendaya taking their relationship to the next level.
For some context, it’s important to say that it’s not entirely clear where and how this rumor started.
It seemed to have garnered attention late Tuesday, with a search for an unverified Twitter account. Pop Hive He tweeted a photo of the couple, who has 166,000 followers and describes themselves as “the world’s #1 pop community,” and said they were “reportedly engaged.”
Despite not citing a source or specifying where these “reports” came from, the tweet quickly went viral and has since garnered more than half a million likes and 46,000 retweets.
It didn’t take long for a ton of other unconfirmed pop culture accounts to join the bandwagon, and Twitter evening on Wednesday evening plunged into mass hysteria over the possibility of a TomDaya wedding.
A bit of detective work suggests that the engagement theory could be the result of a Us Weekly article published more than a week ago in which an insider described their current relationship as “serious and lasting.”
A source told the outlet that Tom and Zendaya met while working in 2016. Spider-Man: Homecoming – after more than a year of dating, they “plan a real future together”.
“Both are in calming mode,” an insider said of the two 26-year-olds.
Tom and Zendaya themselves are notoriously private when it comes to their relationship, and so it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that neither of them touched on the rumors.
However, Zendaya’s mother, Claire Stoermer, may have stepped in on her daughter’s behalf to put an end to speculation once and for all.
Wednesday evening, Claire took to her Instagram page to share a cryptic message about the “clickbait.”
In the quote, “Clicktrap typically refers to the practice of writing sensational or misleading headlines to attract clicks on a piece of content.” “It often relies on exaggerating claims or excluding important information to encourage traffic.”
“The term is often used in a condescending sense,” the message continued.
The snippet appears to have been taken from an online dictionary, and when shared amid all the speculation, the implication is pretty clear that Claire warned fans to be careful when consuming her news.
So, with that said, I think it’s safe to conclude that TomDaya is probably not getting married anytime soon.
Of course, the “reports” of their engagement came after multiple comments by Tom and Zendaya that they wanted to protect their relationship from public scrutiny; Tom told GQ last November that one of the “minus aspects” of their reputation was a lack of privacy.
At the time, the actor spoke candidly in a viral moment in July 2021, when his and Zendaya’s love was revealed to the world after the two costars were photographed kissing in a car.
“The moment you thought had passed between two people who loved each other very much is now a shared moment with the whole world,” he said, thinking of the private PDA, which was finally the first confirmation of their romantic relationship.
“We kind of felt like our privacy was stolen,” he added.
In the same interview, Zendaya also weighed in on the viral photos, saying the experience was “weird, confusing and invasive.”
“Equal feeling [we both share] only when you truly love and care about someone, some moment or thing, I wish it was yours,” he said, echoing Tom’s comments.
In the past year since then, the couple have strayed noticeably from the limelight when Tom announced in August that he was stepping away from social media for the sake of his mental health.
Zendaya went unnoticed as she worked on a number of new projects, including the following. dune 2.
However, she took a break from attending the Emmys in September, where she won Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Rue Bennett. euphoria
While Tom didn’t attend the ceremony, Zendaya gave fans a cute glimpse of their relationship by admitting that she was the first person she texted after winning.
“I didn’t have to text my mom because my mom was already there, she’s here tonight, which is very special,” she said. “I’m texting my boyfriend too.”
