Willow actor Ellie Bamber spoke of the “pressure” of being chosen as a vitally important character in the movie who has a big secret. Disney Plus fantasy series.
Playing Dove, the kitchen maid on the show, Bamber is finally unmasked by Willow (Warwick Davis) as the adult version of baby Elora Danan, who was found by the river in the original 1988 film and sparked her quest for return. him to a Daikini family.
Speaking privately to TechRadar about whether he knew his character’s secret when he first auditioned for the role, Bamber said, “I had an intuition. There was a lot of secrecy at the first audition, then I spoke to Jon. [Jonathan Kasdan, who developed the story] and a little clearer. ‘Something happens and there’s a revelation,’ he said. My manager had a strange suspicion that he might be playing the baby, then I found out that I was going to play the baby, so of course I was very excited about the prospect.
“It was really hard to keep this a secret from friends and family,” he adds, “I’ve had a few mistakes!”
In the movie, the evil queen Bavmorda says that the mark on Elora Danan’s arm proves that she will try to overthrow her and demands that she be killed. However, in the sequel, we learn that Willow hid the baby with a new family after giving it to Madmartigan (Val Kilmer, who unfortunately is not in the new production) and Bavmorda’s warrior daughter Sorsha (Joanne Whalley). gave it a different identity to protect it from prying eyes.
Bamber, who recently starred in The Serpent and The Trial of Christine Keeler, says she feels anticipation, given the fact that the movie is a cult classic with over three decades of history.
“There was a real pressure,” he admits. “I think it was daunting to go to the set and see the scale and the costumes and see that everyone is at the top of their game. I said, ‘Wow, here’s one of the best creatives in the industry, and I have to be at the top of my game too. But because they’re so closely related, I often turn anxiety into excitement. , so I tried to get really excited about it.”
The 10-episode TV show sees the adult Elora Danan reunite with Willow, who must teach him her own sorcery powers as she embarks on her own quest to rescue the kidnapped Prince Arik (Dempsey Brik). And Bamber says some of his favorite scenes from the entire show are with the eponymous star of the new show. βIt was so much fun filming the scenes where I learned magic with Warwick (Willow),” he adds. “We really need to improvise and build that relationship.”
