Apple violated federal law by holding mandatory anti-union meetings and interrogating and coercing employees at an Atlanta retail outlet, according to a ruling shared by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Bloomberg.

In May, employees at the Cumberland Mall retail outlet planned to hold a union election in June, with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) organizing the store. The CWA withdrew its request to hold the election, accusing Apple of “repeated violations” that “makes a free and fair election impossible”.

statement shared by BloombergThe CWA today equated Apple’s tactics with “psychological warfare”, saying that “Apple executives don’t think the rules apply to them.”

The NLRB said that if Apple doesn’t fix the problem, it will file a complaint, and this will be the second complaint. The NLRB filed a complaint against Apple in September after Apple used the same anti-union tactics at a store in New York. The NLRB cannot evaluate penalties, but can seek policy changes and informative remedies.
