We often underestimate the importance of a great chair. In reality we really shouldn’t. 1. 3D Printed Seats

Designed by Johannes Steinbauer Office For Design, these 3D printed chairs are manufactured using additive manufacturing and are created without the use of fabric, springs and foam! And yet they manage to be super functional and comfortable. These chairs use rigid pieces instead of the typical chair shelves.

Why is it notable?

The design is simple enough, with four legs, a rounded seat, and a single bar in the back. But if you want to add more shelves or even other components like textiles, they can also be added via 3D printing. The different parts are easy to assemble and disassemble, and at the end of their life, you can dispose of the different parts separately and recycle them accordingly.

Quite aptly titled “Sharing the Joy,” this award-winning chair comes with a side table for people to put their books and tea/coffee cups on, and a crawl space for cats to casually lie down (with a hanging toy for them). to play with).

Why is it notable?

What I personally love about Sharing Joy is that it has a broader vision of what relaxation is and who can ‘rest’. Designed for people and cats to sit comfortably in, the chair features a hollow rectangular backrest that’s the perfect size for an adult cat (or small dog) to laze inside. leaning on each other feels like absolute perfection. 10/10 will give you the hormones of happiness.

what do we like

  • The chair has a minimalist aesthetic that fits most contemporary homes.

what we don’t like

  • The small space reserved for your pet does not look very comfortable

3. Folding Chair

This foldable chair is clearly of useful construction, but still manages to add a few design elements that give it the same stylish character as leather-covered furniture and stationery.

Why is it notable?

Bringing a different approach to the folding puzzle, the Folio Chair does not require hinges or screws to implement the mechanism. Instead, it seems to draw inspiration from paperwork and art, such as origami, where pushing or pulling a single piece can change the shape of the object. In this case, pulling the top of the chair upwards causes the seat folds and back legs to open upwards and sit flat on top of the middle layer, which is the supporting structure of the chair.

what do we like

  • reminiscent of a folder
  • It has a separate appeal with its leather surfaces and seam marking on the edges.

4. Hunter Chair

Classic furniture designs are classic for a reason, they have stood the test of time, reinforcing their value and functionality as pieces that will never truly go out of style. One such design is Torbjørn Afdal’s Hunter Chair. Designed in 1960, the Hunter Chair is Afdal’s version of the “hunting chair” that was very popular at the time. And Eikund brought the Hunter’s Chair to life once again!

Why is it notable?

The Norwegian furniture brand has decided to recreate and relaunch the Hunter Chair, a perfect example of classic Norwegian furniture. The Hunter Chair is considered a modern-day classic.

what do we like

5. The Peacock Chair

According to the designers, the Peacock Chair is trying to solve some of the problems that may arise, such as “privacy, distraction, noise, and the ability to maintain work/life balance”.

Why is it notable?

As the name suggests, this chair has a peacock-like cover that will give a signal to the people around you and also give you a sense of privacy and temporarily eliminate the noise around you. When the cover is in the down position, it means you are in a more comfortable position and lets people know that they can talk to you and that you can talk to them too. In this position, the shroud has no other purpose than to be a kind of decorative. When the peacock’s “feathers” are up, it’s clear that the person sitting in the chair wants to be left alone to focus and work, read or feel some peace.

what do we like

  • Reduces the noise around you
  • Gives you a sense of privacy

what we don’t like

  • There are similar products on the market.

6. Coffin Office Chair

Are you someone who absolutely despises your dead end corporate job, then we may have found the chair for you! This wooden chair in the shape of a coffin has recently taken the internet by storm. A Twitter user shared this on Sept. 7, and anyone who was fed up with their job was totally blown away.

Why is it notable?

The conceptual coffin chair perfectly represents all the terrible emotions employees feel during their entire workday. It reflects the sense of doom someone goes through as they have to sit through another pointless meeting that could be an email.

what do we like

  • Inspired by Rene Magritte’s painting Balcony (1950).
  • Perfectly captures the feeling of having a job without end

what we don’t like

  • It’s a concept!
  • No comfortable cushioning to be comfortable in

7. Mantis Chair

Just like tables, chairs need to have a sense of stability and confidence that they won’t topple or collapse when you sit on them. For this reason, in most cases, chairs are designed to have legs that are wide, sturdy, and whole, and their feet are almost always straight. This dining chair design throws all those conventions out the window and evokes almost opposite emotions. It also seems to force the viewer to have a little more self-confidence to go beyond what the eyes see.

Why is it notable?

The dining chair is called “Mantis”, probably because its segmented legs and arms resemble those of an insect. One variant even shares the same green and yellow motif. Perhaps another relationship between the chair and the insect is how the piece of furniture leans backward instead of standing upright, almost like a mantis’s body is in a state of constant forward leaning.

what do we like

  • The mirror-polished brass contrasts nicely with the green chair, giving it a little more personality.
  • Color-matched leather offers some physical comfort to what looks like a restless chair

what we don’t like

  • The legs end in soft spheres rather than sharp feet, but there may be concerns that the chair will slide all over the place.

8. TWINS-MDF

TWINS-MDF is a modern interpretation of the first TWINS chair set released by the designer 18 years ago. The original was a pair of metal and wooden chairs that fit together like a glove.

Why is it notable?

This new version uses Medium Density Fiberboard instead (hence “MDF”) and expands the family to a set of four chairs. Technically, only two can actually be used by humans, but the other two chairs are perfect for a kid’s imaginary tea party with plushies.

what do we like

  • This type of design is critical as it helps reduce not only material waste, but also the overall energy footprint during production.
  • The chairs look different, adding an almost playful flair to an industrial motif.

what we don’t like

  • Chairs are more decorative than functional.

9. Rocking Chair

As someone who loves to read and reads for a long time, I know that wooden chairs are the least comfortable to sit on when finishing a good book. I also tried to read in a regular rocking chair and it made my head spin because the constant big movements are a bit too much for my poor eyes. But sitting in a chair can still be uncomfortable and you need to move a bit while reading. This product concept seems like the perfect one for bookworms like me.

Why is it notable?

While rocking chairs are good for relaxing, they’re not always good for floors and our eyes and peace of mind if you’re like me. The designer thought of a new way to have a chair that can be comfortable and allows your body to have natural range of motion while reading, resting or even writing (if you’re used to it). The Nodding Chair tilts back and forth, allowing you to make smaller movements that won’t make you feel too nauseous.

what do we like

  • Creates less pressure on the floor so no marks and scratches
  • Allows the chair to move with you as you occasionally change positions while reading

what we don’t like

  • The seat itself doesn’t look that comfortable because it’s just wood and no cushions.

10. Foldable Wooden Chair

Unlike any folding chair you might have seen around, on the internet, or even on this website, this creative little trick comes from Jon 117 SP, a designer from Léon, Mexico.

Why is it notable?

Simply called the Folding Wood Chair, the seat uses two nearly identical wooden profiles with a thick paracord weave between both to create the seat and backrest. Paracord does two basic things – not only does it feel comfortable to sit on (as opposed to wood or metal, which feels stiff) but also adds a flexible element to the seat that folds together so that the chair collapses flat when you lie down. does not sit on it.

what do we like

  • A unique approach to a folding chair

what we don’t like

  • We’re not sure how comfortable it would be to sit on paracord.
