The Most Amazing Video Games of 2022

What surprises a video game? For some, it may be the game that pops up out of nowhere and dominates the conversation. For others, it’s a game that defies their expectations and perhaps even proves the doubters wrong. This is a game that does something I never expected for the author. Most of the games we already know about right now, although we get shocking indies here and there, and I think you can find someone to say that a bad game is good and vice versa. Therefore, an amazing game must be something that catches me off guard, either through its gameplay or the conversation around it.

To put it simply, you know something is surprising when you see it, and it’s okay if you think none of the games on this list are surprising, because what we all see as surprise is different in our own eyes. . With that in mind, here are some games that were surprising this year.

Sonic Frontiers – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PC

When an open world Sonic the Hedgehog There was a mixed reaction when the game was first announced. There was optimism about a world to explore. At the same time, there was confusion about how Sonic in particular would get through this kind of environment. Their games are all about getting from Point A to Point B at high speeds with quick responses that reward talented players with better rewards. An open-world exploration game doesn’t quite fit that mold, and when the first few gameplay trailers came out, there was definitely some concern that SEGA would largely miss the point here.

Instead, what we got was a totally fine, if not good, new direction for the franchise. The open world features were a bit boring at times, and the high speed levels sometimes led to some really frustrating deaths that felt like they were out of the player’s control, but none of that really made the overall experience feel good. It was a fun game, and the surprise was because Sonic was starting to feel like he was losing his way again. But nonetheless, this latest game should be just as fun as everyone wants it to be, and an exciting new step in the series.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin it shouldn’t be a good game. To be honest, if you only watch cutscenes, you may be tempted to believe that this isn’t a cutscene. Every piece of dialogue is meaningless, the characters feel like they’re just speaking to say the words instead of talking to each other, and there are random large blocks of text to indicate moments that will definitely be playable at some point in development. This is one of those games where you can’t really believe what you see on the screen while playing. Take this cutscene, arguably the best moment in video games this year.

That’s the way it is, and yet some really fun action sequences are torn in between all these cutscenes. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin It’s a dungeon crawler game with huge flashy boss fights and loads of customization options. It took a lot of comparisons dark souls game but actually closer nioh, makes sense because Nioh and Paradise Stranger by the same developer, Team Ninja. It’s a really fun game to play and if you’re someone who likes games like Hand Ring, you may want to try. Get ready for one of the weirdest stories you’ve ever seen. Paradise Stranger It’s on this list because you can’t believe it’s real.

Madden NFL 23 – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC

I can hear everyone screaming now, but before you finish writing that angry comment, please give an explanation. This Madden games have been largely and sadly bad for a very long time. Launch day has traditionally been synonymous with glitches, angry fans, and calls for the NFL to revoke EA Sports’ exclusivity license. This year things were different. Yes, there were glitches and fans scrutinized bomb sites like Metacritic, but the usual outrage was quieter than usual. It wasn’t out of indifference, though. Fans and critics, for the first time in a long time, Madden it got better this year

the idea of Madden The development is so surprising, so extraordinary from the expected status quo, that this is one of the most surprising plays of the year in the opinion of the author alone. This, like others on this list, does not mean: item 23 great game, nor this year Madden reached the level that most of us remember fondly. But it’s one of the first positive steps the series has taken in a long time, and if the series manages to bounce back, fans can point it out as a big step in the right direction.
