Spoilers ahead for “White Lotus”!
The shocking final five minutes of Episode 5 of the second season of “White Lotus””, some say “Uncle!” on HBO.
In the closing scene, the show veered into the “Dragon House” area in “That’s Amore” when Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) sneaks out of her room in the middle of the night to discover her new friend Quentin (Tom Hollander). having sex with his nephew, Jack (Leo Woodall). To make things even weirder, Jack is dating Tanya’s assistant, Portia (Haley Lu Richardson).
The crazy twist is eerily similar to a scene in Season 1 of “The White Lotus,” where hotel manager Armond (Murray Bartlett) is caught red-handed with his young employee Dillon (Lukas Gage).
Series creator Mike White told Variety: on That was exactly his intention on Sunday – and the final scene was supposed to “mirror” the previous scene.
He also told Variety that both scenes in Seasons 1 and 2 feature a character marching on gay sex behind closed doors, with both running two episodes before the finale. It should be noted that the person who enters Armond in Season 1 is Shane (Jake Lacy), who eventually kills Armond. If White really wants to “echo” the scene in Season 2, Tanya may suffer the same fate as Shane.
“As a gay man, it’s my pleasure to have gay sex deported again,” White told Variety. “This is filthy… men have sex and there’s this ‘Psycho’ music underneath. It just amuses me.
Added: “I just think extreme sex is sexier. I guess I’m old-fashioned. There’s a gothic feel to walking around a haunted hotel or a haunted house and people making love behind closed doors.”
Still, as for the burning question most people ask about the scene—whether Jack is Quentin’s real nephew—White was timid.
“Well, you’ll have to see,” he mocked.
Despite White’s elusive explanation, many on Twitter have theories about who Jack really is and where the story is headed. Check them out below!
