Netflix’s ‘Glass Onion’ is a veiled dig at Elon Musk, audiences speculate: ‘Brutal takedown’

Viewers argue that “Knives Out: Glass Onion,” a sequel to the original hit from 2019, is a major parody of Twitter CEO Elon Musk.

Ed Norton’s character Miles from Netflix’s “Glass Onion” is a tech billionaire who invites his eclectic group of friends to his remote island to play a mysterious murder game. His character often comes across as a childish, spoiled playboy, and some viewers say comparisons to Musk, the billionaire CEO of Twitter, SpaceX and Tesla, are uncanny.

“The Glass Onion movie is the brutal takedown of Elon Musk and you should all watch it,” wrote Beyond the Pale host Rafael Shimunov.

“Edward Norton’s Miles Bron may be fictional, but we’re very familiar with the exaggerated view of his own mind,” said James Downie of MSNBC Daily.

“Muskian traits of a Miles Bron,” Mashable tweeted.

“They really make that point during the movie, and well, it’s hard not to see some Muskian resemblances – down to the tiniest detail -” the outlet wrote. “Similar to the way Musk runs Twitter, he faxes frivolous business ideas to his employees—even firing people—with half-thought tweets. Reviews. Bron has pseudo-liberal beliefs like clean energy (we’ll get to that later), around people are fully aware of how red-haired he is (literally called). It’s Musk.”

“Elon Musk is Miles Bron!” CNN’s Bakari Sellers tweeted.

“Bullseye,” DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison agreed.

Director Rian Johnson said it was just a coincidence, although he could understand why viewers were comparing him to Musk. The movie was also shot long before the billionaire got behind the wheel of Twitter.

“This is so weird. It’s so weird,” Johnson said of the timing in an interview with The Atlantic. “I hope there’s no secret marketing department at Netflix funding this Twitter takeover.”

He admitted he had “an odd relevance” to current events.

“But frankly, it has an almost strange relevance right in the present moment,” he said. “A friend of mine said, ‘Man, it feels like it was written this afternoon.’ And it’s a terrible, terrible accident, you know?”

Musk has been a favorite target of liberal media since he took over Twitter. After ex-Rolling Stone reporter Matt Taibbi examined how Twitter executives used reports about his platform to mislead, the Hunter Biden laptop story has blasted the media several times, including a dig into the press for his role in “deceiving” the public. Several times President Biden’s son.

“I think those people should look in the mirror and wonder why they cheated. Why did they cheat the American people?” Of the controversy, Musk said: “Instead of trying to pin the blame on Matt Taibbi, they accept some of their own responsibility for being dishonest with the American people.”
