While many know and admire Frank Perdue for his business achievements in the poultry industry, what struck me most about him as his wife was that he was a family man at heart. During our 17 years of marriage, I had the opportunity to watch how much effort he put into it.
By his 80s, after a lifetime of running a highly successful business and the head of an ever-growing family, Frank was firm in his belief that living a happy life requires living with integrity and following one’s highest values. He believed that at the end of the day, people living this way gain self-respect and the trust of others.
Ultimately, living with integrity breeds successful relationships, not just at home, but in business as well. To ensure that this attitude of integrity and values continued in the Perdue family for generations, Frank left his family with not only material possessions when he passed away – in fact, it was one of the most meaningful and valuable things he did for his family. it didn’t cost anything.

Frank knew that as businesses grow, it can be difficult to maintain the small business family-like values that originally existed.
No matter how you choose to instill your ethical legacy in your home and business, everyone has life lessons and perspectives to share with future generations.
But taking the necessary measures to protect these values is exactly what businesses of all sizes need to thrive. An ethical will was Frank’s way of making the values he learned throughout his life part of his legacy for future generations.
