Meghan Markle and Prince Harry fell head over heels as the Prince and Princess of Wales embark on their first US trip in eight years.
On Thursday, Netflix released the first trailer for its upcoming six-part documentary “Harry & Meghan” about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. It promises to shed light on the hardships the couple endured in the royal spotlight. In one shot, the former American actress is seen wiping her tears, while another clip shows Prince William and Kate Middleton sternly from the 2019 Commonwealth Day ceremony.
“No one sees what happens behind closed doors,” says Harry during the trailer. “I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”
With the risk so high, wouldn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us? she asked.
NETFLIX DOCUMENTARY SERIES ON PRINCESS HARRY AND MEGHAN MARKLE GIVES A FIRST LOOK AT PERSONAL LIVES AFTER ROYAL SPLIT
Royal writer Omid Scobie invented the broadcast giant’s documentary series as the “halftime show” of William’s “Super Bowl” in America.
As the Prince and Princess of Wales move forward for their three-day visit to Boston, some royal experts are wondering if the Sussexes are trying to steal the couple’s thunder.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Kerene Barefield said: “There’s no denying that the trailer has now dropped properly to potentially overshadow William and Kate’s visit to America and shift the focus to the Sussexes.” Barefield is executive producer of True Royalty TV, which recently aired a documentary called “Prince William: Calls of Duty”, which chronicles how the first heir to the throne, the father of three, prepares to become king.

“It definitely makes me want to watch the Netflix series,” he shared. “It shows you the ups and downs, the personal photos – it explains everything in a minute… But for me, I think it’s pretty sad to post it when Kate and William are out there doing such important work. Raising awareness to save our planet.”
On Friday, the Prince and Princess of Wales will host the Earthshot Awards ceremony celebrating environmental innovators. Boston, the birthplace of John F. Kennedy, was chosen to host the second annual awards ceremony because of the late president’s 1962 “shot to the moon” speech – making it difficult for Americans to reach the moon by the end of the decade. She inspired Prince and his associates to set a similar goal of finding solutions to climate change and other environmental problems by 2030.
Barefield also wondered why a photo of the Prince and Princess of Wales featured prominently in the Netflix trailer.
MEGHAN MARKLE HEADLINES AT INDIANA EVENT FOR WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT
“It just makes everyone who watches believe it. [the Sussexes] Maybe they’ll start talking to Kate and William about their problems behind closed doors,” he explained. We don’t know yet if this will feature in the documentary series, but according to the trailer, that kind of says it. Maybe they have the potential to talk about these sibling issues and maybe even the issues Meghan and Kate have. It’s a great trailer and definitely makes you want to watch it, but I don’t think the timing is particularly right.”
While William and Middleton try to keep their eyes on the award, they’re likely to be asked about the Sussexes, who, in interviews with Oprah Winfrey and other US media, criticize the royal family for racism and insensitive treatment.
On Tuesday, the former “Suits” star arrived in Indianapolis for an event hosted by the Central Indiana Women’s Fund. The Duchess spoke of the “power of women” at the dinner in her honor. The event was announced as “Women’s Power: An Evening with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex”. Markle spoke on stage just before William and Middleton flew to Boston.
Coincidentally, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be on the East Coast next week after William and Middleton, both 40, return to their home countries. On December 6, Harry, 38, and Markle, 41, are scheduled to attend the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization’s Ripple of Hope Award Gala in New York.
And the royal family did not finish preparing themselves. On January 10, Harry publishes his highly anticipated memoir, “The Reserve,” in which he will discuss the struggles he endured, most likely behind the palace gates.
‘REAL HOUSEWIVES’ GRADUATE CLAIMED THAT HE STARTED WHEN PRINCE HARRY WAS 21 YEARS AND WAS A MOTHER OF TWO YEARS OLD
Barefield said it is now more important than ever for the Prince and Princess of Wales to connect with the American people.
“Since the Oprah interview, it’s been crucial that Kate and William get back to America and push forward the campaigns they’ve been working on,” she explained. “It’s very important for them to appear on the public stage. And it’s extremely important for William and Kate to show that the monarchy is valid and modern. They want to bring their work to young people. Here in the UK they have definitely attracted a younger audience that follows what they do. And part of that is being in public.”
Barefield suspects that William and Middleton will “mind their way” and focus on their business while in the US.
“The Earthshot Award is incredibly important to William,” he said. “I doubt it will focus on this trailer, and I hope it doesn’t. The general reaction in the UK is that it was deliberately left out to overshadow things. A lot of people say, ‘Don’t talk about it. Don’t watch it.’ But ultimately, the people here are very supportive of the Prince and Princess of Wales. They don’t want their work to be overshadowed. It’s really sad.”

“People in the UK love Kate,” she shared. “She’s known as a fantastic fashion icon. And she does a lot of work in her early years of child development. She’s seen as someone who does incredible work. There was a time when people wondered if the Sussexes would outshine William and Kate long ago. They even broke up. But “I don’t think that’s the case anymore. They have their own star power.”
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, told Fox News Digital that the Prince and Princess of Wales are committed to making a difference.
“Both William and his father know that for the monarchy to survive, it must evolve and modernize,” he explained. “I don’t think much changed until Princess Diana’s death when the Queen made a huge effort to stay in touch with her people. It worked, and then in the last year or two of her life she mastered Zoom searches and it showed a nice side of her character.
“Kate and Wills have a stellar presence and the trick is to get as many people as possible to see it,” he shared. “Hugs, handshakes, conversations and getting close to people are key.”
MEGHAN MARKLE ENCOUNTERED ‘AGAINST’ THREATS IN UK: ‘VERY REAL’, according to former head of counter-terrorism
Nick Bullen, co-founder of True Royalty TV, told Fox News Digital that the Netflix documentary series King III. Bullen is an award-winning documentarian who has been programming about the British royal family for 20 years and has worked closely with the 74-year-old actress for nearly a decade.
“I guess the king was incredibly hurt by everything that was going on because in his speech on the day he became king he made it very clear how much he loved Harry and Meghan and how well he wished them in their new life,” Bulent said.
“They chose the new life, they left [to the U.S.] they went there for privacy, to escape the limelight of the royal world. And yet, the only thing they’ve done since… is publicity. So I think the king is probably hurt and a little confused as to why they did it. However, with that said, he’s a man who understands his duty and will continue to do what he’s supposed to do and stick with the job at hand.
“It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the relationship is still very strained in every way,” she continued. “But I think the royal family [is] they do their best to try and repair and try and achieve. But it’s hard, isn’t it? … You think that all these bricks … have been laid. Still, the royal family says, ‘Come and be a part of us’. … At what point do you say ‘Okay, enough’. Have we tried?'”
Barefield admitted that a reconciliation seems unlikely anytime soon.
“It’s really sad,” he said.
