Kylie Jenner has responded to allegations that she is deliberately trying to distract fans from a scandal involving her sister, Kim Kardashian.
The famous brand faced backlash after two young children posing with teddy bears dressed in BDSM-style harnesses were featured in its latest campaign promoting its Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
What’s more, people later noticed court documents mentioning “child porn” in the background of the pictures. As a result, tons of angry users accused Balenciaga of sexualizing children, calling the shooting a “cancellable crime”.
Balenciaga issued two brief apologies for the photo shoot and court documents the next day, and later shared a longer note denouncing child abuse. “We strongly condemn child abuse; we did not intend to include it in our narrative. These two separate advertising campaigns reflect a series of grave mistakes for which Balenciaga takes responsibility.”
Kim, one of Balenciaga’s biggest faces, remained silent for a week before addressing the scandal in a written statement he shared on social media, revealing that he had personally spoken to the brand’s team before speaking publicly.
“I’ve been quiet for the past few days because I’m not disgusted or outraged by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, I just wanted the opportunity to talk to their team to understand for myself how that could happen.” Wrote
“As a mother of four, I was shaken by the disturbing images. The safety of children must be given the highest regard and any attempt to normalize child abuse should have no place in our society – period.”
Kim later revealed that she appreciated Balenciaga’s apology and is now “re-evaluating” her relationship with the brand. Many were disappointed with this response, given that it made no commitment to sever ties with the company.
“I appreciate that Balenciaga removed the campaigns and apologized. “I believe they understand the seriousness of the issue while talking to them and will take the necessary measures to prevent this from happening again,” he wrote.
“As for my future with Balenciaga, I am currently reevaluating my relationship with the brand and basing it on their willingness to accept responsibility for something that should have never happened in the first place, and the actions I expect them to take. Protect the children,” he concluded.
Kim was blasted and mocked on social media for her reaction when several Twitter users questioned why she chose not to end her relationship with the brand immediately.
And so, when Kim’s sister, Kylie, chose to upload some rare photos of her son as all this exploded on the internet, some people couldn’t help but question the timing of it.
Kylie gave birth to the little boy in February, but has yet to reveal her name or share photos of her face – which is very different from how she has shown off her first daughter, Stormi, all over social media from the moment she was born.
Several users immediately surmised that Kylie deliberately chose to post photos – all of which still hide her face – in an attempt to distract social media users from the Balenciaga scandal and Kim’s divisive expression.
TikToker then showcased a flurry of recent Kardashian/Jenners photos, including photos of Kylie and her son, and Kim’s surprising meeting with Khloé’s ex-girlfriend, Tristan Thompson.
As the video garnered attention online, more and more users became convinced that Kylie was deliberately posting photos of the little boy to get Kim’s attention.
But soon, Kylie entered the conversation herself to respond to the allegations, insisting that the photos were not “cover-ups.”
Commenting directly on the TikTok video, Kylie said, “oh why would I send my kid to cover up balenciaga? so I don’t do that. there’s always something to say.”
Some fans sided with Kylie, suggesting that the king “owed nothing to anyone”.
“So now Kylie Jenner is blamed for Balenciaga and not Balenciaga? Weird,” one tweet read.
But others argued that it was infuriating that Kylie and her sisters chose to remain silent about such major scandals involving family members, given that they had the “power and influence” to inspire change.
“Lol doesn’t hold them accountable for things they didn’t do. Anger/lack of voice when they have a platform,” said one person.
“The Kardashians have the power and influence to help create change,” said another.
