Kate Hudson on co-parenting her three kids with three different dads: ‘I feel like we’re killing her’

Kate Hudson considered co-parenting her three children amicably with three different fathers.

The 43-year-old actress, who shares her ex-husband Chris Robinson’s 18-year-old son Ryder, ex-fiancee Matt Bellamy’s 11-year-old son Bingham and fiancee Danny Fujikawa’s 4-year-old daughter Rani Rose, talked about herself. The blended family in an interview with The Sunday Times.

“It may not look traditional on the outside, but on the inside I feel like we’re killing it,” said the “Glass Onion: A Knife Out Mystery” star.

“The unit I formed with three kids from three different fathers is a very strong unit and this is ours,” he continued.

“I’m not interested in imposing a traditional idea of ​​love or marriage. I would like to grow more intimate with my partner for a long time, but I also don’t have rose-colored glasses.”

“My purpose in life is to feel love and give love, but I’m also a practical person, so one day at a time,” added Hudson. “I work really hard in relationships because I love them.”

“My family has done a great job keeping this dance going,” said the Academy Award nominee.

Hudson moved in with Robinson, 55, just days after they met in May 2000. The couple married on New Year’s Eve that year, and Hudson gave birth to Ryder in 2004. However, the two separated in November 2006 and finalized their divorce in October 2007.

In an interview with The Times, Hudson shared her thoughts on how she has approached parenthood differently since welcoming her first child with the founder of The Black Crowes at the age of 24.

“I’m definitely more of a mom now that I’ve grown up,” said the Los Angeles native. “Our relationship with Ryder is very special because I grew up with him. Becoming a mother has been the biggest learning and womanhood period of my life.”

She continued: “It was a choice. We wanted to have a baby and it was an instinctive feeling. I was very attached to her and vice versa. I took her everywhere. I didn’t let her go until she was two. I actually sent her to school until she was ten, whereas I was the other I’m much more organized with my kids. Me when Ryder grows up [realized] A little more structure might be good for the kid.”

The Fabletics founder shared that the eldest is “in college and very happy,” adding, “Chris and I need to check in every once in a while.”

Hudson, 44, and Bellamy began dating in 2010 after meeting at the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, California. The two announced their engagement in April 2011 and welcomed Bingham “Bing” in July of that year.

In December 2014, the actress and Muse frontman announced that they had canceled their engagement. However, they have been on good terms since they ended their romance.

“Matt is so awesome – I couldn’t have asked for a better co-parent,” Hudson said.

“For me it’s like you love this person. It doesn’t just go away, but you can re-establish a different kind of love,” she added. “You can have a great time with an ex because you really only focus on your child’s love.”

Bellamy is now married to model Elle Evans, whom he married in 2019. The two share a 2-year-old daughter, Lovella. Hudson told the Times that he and Evans were close friends and vacationed with their families.

The “Almost Famous” star started dating long-time family friend Fujikawa, 36, in December 2016. Hudson first met the musician when she was 23 and pregnant with Ryder.

In April 2018, Hudson announced that they were expecting their first child together, and they welcomed Rani later that year. The two announced their engagement in September 2021.


Hudson told the Times that the couple was in no rush to the altar. “I hope we can get married!” he said, smiling. “We’re in no rush. The last thing I need right now is to plan a wedding, after all, but I’m excited about it.”

“He was on his phone last night reviewing some old footage of himself and Rani and it melted my heart,” he added. “He’s a great dad and stepdad.”
