“We’re working on that,” Jameson said when asked about a live-action adaptation. A series under development by the producers sometime in 2015 was also in the making. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink and NBCUniversal Battlestar Galactica manufacturers UCP. However, Starlin has announced that development on this project has stalled after Spink’s death in 2017.
“We had a show that was in the making, but then the producer died. That kind of put the whole thing in kibosh, so now we’re talking to people again. We don’t want to make a movie. We want to make a series, because that’s a long story. It’s a bit of a thing right now.” It’s making it harder, but we’re working on it.”
dreadstar It tells the story of Vanth Dreadstar, the last survivor from the Milky Way galaxy. Equipped with the power of a demigod and a magical sword, Starslayer seeks reasons to become champions across the galaxy with his intergalactic companions, including the cunning cat-man Oedi, the cyborg sorcerer Syzygy Darklock, the swindler Skeevo, and the cybernetic telepath Willow. Covering the empirical Galaxy, the series is set against a 200-year war between King Gregzor’s Monarchy and the High Lord Papal’s political-mystical-religious order known as The Instrumentality.
The series is in development as Starlin and Jameson recently teamed up to develop the 100-page animated graphic novel Dreadstar Returns. Starlin continued:
“This is Dreadstar’s 40th anniversary and Jaime and I have decided to bring the series back. Basically he’s my co-artist. He’s listed as the Painter, but in many ways he’s also helped redesign some of the characters and inspiration in many stories now.”
Starlin had a major injury that could end her career, but she’s back to normal. Regarding this, he said:
“Before I blew my hand, I was working on that story. My art book [Dreadstar] omnibus has a few pages from that. I’ll get back to that story eventually, but that’s not the end of five graphic novels. I plan to continue for a while, but I’ll print this as a backup and someone else can draw it after I die.”
This could be a great series if it’s in the hands of the right creative team. Hopefully, Starlin and Jameson can find that talented team. what do you think about dreadstar Is it being developed as a series?
