It looks like Henry Cavill won’t be returning to the role of Superman. The actor announced his unexpected and involuntary departure by posting a text screenshot on Instagram on Wednesday.

“I just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and it’s sad news, folks,” Cavill wrote. “After all, I won’t be coming back as Superman. After they told me to announce I was coming back in October before they were hired by the studio, this news isn’t easy, but that’s life.”
