Heisman Trophy finalists, Caleb Williams announced as leader

The Heisman Trophy finalists were set as USC’s Caleb Williams, Georgia’s Stetson Bennett, TCU’s Max Duggan, and Ohio State’s CJ Stroud will travel to New York to hear who will be announced as the winner.

The favorites of the four are Williams, despite losing to Utah at the Pac-12 Championship last weekend and being eliminated from the College Football playoffs.

In his first season with the Trojans after following former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley to sunny California, Williams scored 37 goals for 4,075 yards, the most draw in the country.

A true sophomore, Williams will have to play another college season before heading to the NFL, but USC has several teams on guard this year as they head to the Cotton Bowl to face Tulane on January 2.

But Bennett, Duggan and Stroud will qualify for the College Football Playoffs, and Bennett puts the Georgia Bulldogs in the top spot in the country.

Seeking back-to-back national titles after defeating Alabama last year, Bennett scored 20 goals in 13 games for Georgia, shooting 3,425 yards with six interceptions.

Duggan is the surprise in this group as the Horned Frogs are this season, but they lost to Kansas State at the Big 12 Championships in overtime.

Duggan had his best collegiate season to date with 3,321 passing yards with four interceptions, scoring 30 goals in 13 games with a 64.9% completion rate.

Finally, Stroud was Heisman’s favorite to start the season after winning the award with 4,435 yards and 44 goals for the Buckeyes last year.

However, compared to the 2021-22 statistics table, he had a “downturn year” with six interceptions, throwing 3,340 yards and 37 goals.

Stroud is still considered one of the top NFL Draft nominees if he decides to declare it.
