Guillermo del Toro’s MADNESS AT THE MOUNTAINS Could Be A Stop-Motion Animated Movie — GeekTyrant

HP Lovecraft‘s In the Mountains of Madness became a passion project for the director Guillermo del Toroand that’s something he can’t get off the ground and into production. After making a project he didn’t give up and a stop-motion animation film, Pinocchiothe filmmaker is now considering developing On the Mountain of Madness In a stop-motion animated film with visual effects artist legend Phil Tippett!

This news comes from IndieWire, and the filmmaker continued: “I said it would be ideal to do it. Mountains of Madness as stop-motion. You watch the animation with more enthusiasm than the live action. It’s an almost hypnotic act and the relationship with the story becomes more intimate that way.”

In fact, I’d love to see Del Toro do that! I want to see On the Mountain of Madness as a stop-motion animated movie! It can be a visually stunning and terrifying movie, and it would be incredible if Del Toro and Tippett could come together to make it happen.

It would be a long and costly production, but it would be worth it. It seems to have a strong relationship with Netflix, with projects like Del Toro. Curiosity Cabinet and Pinocchioand apparently the most obvious place for him to do that would be Netflix. But we’ll see if that’s something they really want to do.

Del Toro previously talked about shooting the movie on Netflix and had this to say about the project:

“The thing about mountains is the script I wrote together fifteen years ago, not the script I’m going to do now, so I have to rewrite it. Not just to somehow shrink it, but scale with elements that would make it go through the studio mechanism as I was trying to bridge it back then.”

He went on to say that if he shoots the movie on Netflix, “it could go into a much more esoteric, weirder, smaller version” and shared:

“You know, I can go back to some scenes that were left out. I don’t have an appetite for some big set pieces I’ve designed, for example. It’s like I’ve already done this or that giant set. … I want to go in a weirder direction.”

Tom Cruise he would initially play in the original project, but Del Toro would not bring him in now. He mostly wants to post the unknown:

“You know, I think age has changed now. Tom is fifteen years older. I think… it would be a different cast. If I could, I would mostly chase the unknown and make the journey star.”

The director also talked about how crazy and shocking the ending of the story was, saying:

“I know the ending we got was one of the most interesting, weird, disturbing endings for me. There are about four horror set pieces that I loved in the original script. are we doing, what are we doing? Are you going to do this, what are you going to do next?” and ‘I have to take time to rewrite’.”

In the Mountains of Madness On an expedition to Antarctica in the 1930s, a group of explorers led by a scientist encounter the remains of an ancient civilization.

I hope Del Toro finally brings this story to life. I don’t care how he does it, I just want to see it!
