The company’s new CEO, Elon Musk, has confirmed on Twitter that it will increase the current 280 character limit on Twitter to 4,000.

In response to the question of whether Twitter’s plans to increase the character limit to 4,000 are correct, Musk replied “Yes” without providing additional information. Twitter initially had a 140 character limit before it was increased to 280 in 2017.

The exact details of the increase in the character limit are not yet known, but previous reports and tweets from Musk suggested that Twitter could make it easier for users to split long chains of text into multiple tweets that are part of a thread. It looks like an increase to 4,000 characters will eliminate this idea and users will be able to send longer blocks of text in single posts.

Twitter announced over the weekend that it plans to relaunch its Twitter Blue subscription service on Monday. After Musk criticized Apple’s 30% commission on in-app purchases, Twitter Blue will relaunch at a higher price of $11 per month for iPhone users.
