Christian Pulisic hospital photo goes viral: Meet the boy who shared the iconic image

A photo of USA Men’s National Team star Christian Pulisic celebrating in a hospital bed in Qatar went viral on Tuesday after USMNT beat Iran 1-0 at the World Cup.

The picture shows Pulisic clenching his fist while attached to medical equipment with a mask around his chin and a hospital identification bracelet around his wrist. It’s captioned in Snapchat style, “I’m proud of my guys, don’t worry I’ll be ready on Saturday. [four praying hands emojis, three heart emojis]”

Pulisic was hospitalized for a stomach injury after scoring his only goal for the United States against Iran. He passed out at halftime and went straight to the hospital for evaluation.

Less than an hour after the victory that put the USA in the World Cup qualifying round against the Netherlands on Saturday, the photo began to circulate on social media. But Pulisic doesn’t have a very active social presence, and her Snapchat is private, meaning only friends and family can see it.

Regardless, Twitter accounts with tens of millions of followers such as @FOXSoccer, @ESPN, and @BarstoolSports all shared the image, all referring to a specific account named @Adimitri24, which had 12 followers on Tuesday afternoon.

So who is this @Adimitri24? And how did he get the instantly iconic Pulisic painting?

Austin Dimitri is an 18-year-old freshman at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. His mother Tricia played football as a child. One of Tricia’s childhood football teammates was named Kelly. She grew up to marry Mark Pulisic and they had a son named Christian she.

Tricia and Kelly remained friends as adults. On Tuesday, Kelly Pulisic sent Tricia a photo – THEM A picture of Christian Pulisic celebrating at the Qatar hospital. It was a screenshot from Christian’s Snapchat account. Tricia then sent the screenshot to Austin.

“I was like goddamn shit,” Austin Dimitri told OutKick.

Dimitri’s friend Ben Ross is an edge photographer for the Philadelphia Association, and Dimitri sent him the Pulisic picture with a simple question: “Brother, what am I going to do?”

Ross then sent it to someone at: Regional Sports Networkofficial tweeter.

And the rest is history

Austin Dimitri watched with stunned amusement as the picture exploded. He told OutKick that he was nervous. Kelly Pulisic said she would be angry if her photo was shared. But Tricia told him that wasn’t the case at all.

Representatives from ABC reached out to Dimitri and his mother to find out the story. Dimitri tries to make use of his 15 minutes. He tweeted the Cash App. He says he made about $30, largely due to a donation from a news reporter from Chelsea.

Dimitri admits he’s not a big football fan – he says “I’m a baseball guy” – and is currently undecided about his Millersville division. But he said he might announce marketing next term.
